Edina High School’s SWENext Club won the most recent Wow! Innovation Challenge! They are partnering with multiple STEM organizations to create great opportunities for their members and others. To advertise their club’s events and build their membership, Edina’s SWENext Club connects with the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses offered in the school district. Their club mentors middle school students in the Girls Excelling in Math and Science (GEMS) program to foster a passion for STEM at a young age. Finally, to learn more about various engineering disciplines and careers, Edina’s SWENext Club is inviting our SWE Minnesota professional section members to share about what “a day in our life” really means. On March 26th, Emerson in Shakopee partnered with SWE-MN to host this year’s Spring Seminar. Attendees had ample opportunity to build their network with around 75 guests in attendance from over 30 Twin Cities companies and colleges. The morning opened with a Keynote Presentation from Emerson’s own Yetta Kuhn, VP of Pressure Operations sharing her own personal leadership success factors. Guests were able to attend 3 sessions throughout the course of the day targeted to their experience level ranging from collegiate to 10+ years in the industry.  Sessions varied in topics from “SWE Advocacy and Government Involvement” from Past SWE President Elizabeth Bierman to “Solving Presentations: An Engineering Approach to Presentations Design and Delivery” and “Career Jungle Gym”.  The day closed out with a Happy Hour at near-by Badger Hill Brewing.  We would like to thank all of the speakers who donated their Saturday to come share their expertise with SWE-MN!  A huge thank you to our amazing sponsor Emerson for partnering with us for the event!

SWE-MN isn't just about volunteering, learning, and organizing, we're also excited to make personal connections (maybe sometimes even over a drink). This past week 23 of us made the trek to Lake Monster Brewing (I know only 18 are pictured below. I didn't miscount. Next time, we'll convince the men to be pictured with so many great women!). For the majority of people in attendance, this was their 1st SWE-MN event. Connections were made. Resumes were exchanged. New SWE-MN members were embraced. We're excited to meet you all and make more connections, so join us at the next one!

This blog will be our new channel for information we previously posted in our SWE-MN newsletters. Here you will be able to get event recaps, Society/Region membership updates, and showcases of our members. The weekly emails will still be your go-to place for timely information on upcoming events, but we hope this blog will be your perfect place to catch-up on the events you may have missed.
